Steven Pinker at Dawson College – February 2019

Eminent Harvard University professor, author and Dawson grad Steven Pinker (Class of 1973) gave a Social Science Week lecture yesterday as his gift for Dawson College’s 50th Anniversary. The reception hall was filled with students and Prof. Pinker was so happy that his former teachers Ken Milkman, Lillian Fox and Catherine Fichten could also attend. Other special guests were the professor’s sister, Susan, (Class of 1977 and former psychology teacher at Dawson) who is now a Wall Street Journal columnist and psychologist, and his mother Roslyn. “My foundational beliefs were acquired at Dawson,” said Prof. Pinker, quoting Henry Adam: “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” Dawson College and its Foundation are extremely grateful for Prof. Pinker’s lecture, especially developed for Dawson, which featured an overview of his ideas and discoveries and many reminiscences about his college years.
